Nathalie Melville M: +44 (0)7817 615485) After her graduation from Central Saint Martins in 2004 fine jeweller Nathalie Melville spent time gathering experience from high profile companies such as Folli Follie and Tiffany & Co. During this time she also built up a private client base working on pieces such as engagement rings and family heirlooms. This summer sees Nathalie move into the wholesale arena with the launch of her silver collections at a variety of shows. These include Treasure, (at The Tower of London as part of London Jewellery Week), the Summer Fair, International Jewellery London, Premiere Classe (as part of the ready-to-wear shows in Paris) and, moving into 2009, Collections. The collections themselves are born from Nathalie’s organic style synonymous with her commission work. This combined with her love of literature creates the intended narrative theme throughout the work. This ranges from the intricately linked Manderley collection, based on the opening line of Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca: “Last night I dreamt I went back to Manderley” to Kensington Gardens, inspired by the age old tree trunk - based in the world famous gardens – which is home to hundreds of hand carved figurines of fairytale characters. The narration in the latter is designed to evoke nostalgia reminiscent of the Peter Pan generation where children in knickerbockers stood finding their favourite character hidden in the gnarled crevasses of the trunk. Manderley on the other hand is more subtly emotive playing on the haunting undertones of the book creating an almost fragile looking body of work, (though very practical in it’s manufacturing). This look achieved through Nathalie’s signature lace like carving technique, a trademark of all her work. All of the collections are made in sterling silver and vermeil with a variety of small faceted gems such as rubies, emeralds, aquamarines, topaz, black sapphires and citrines.
